Corridor Traffic Management
Systems (CTMS)
City of Toronto
With over 40 cameras situated along the major
corridor into the city, Toronto's Gardiner Expressway and Lake Shore Boulevard comprise
one of the most progressive traffic management corridors in North America. Fortran and
Guild were partners in the design, integration and operation of this effective traffic
management venture.
Installation of the traffic monitoring system
included the use of the cameras and dozens of inductive loop detectors along the two
parallel stretches of roadway. Data is fed and updated continuously to two management
stations where operators monitor the data being received, as well as live video images
displayed on over 50 PC and CCTV monitors. Plans for the future include the integration of
the traffic monitoring system with the UTC/SCOOT system currently operating along
Lakeshore Boulevard, creating a real-time incident management and response team. |
